Black ‘N Blue II

An absolutely pristine 1969 Mandella long deck.

This boat has not been restored.

She is 100% original and has had the same owner for the last 48 years!

As you can see it is immaculate inside and out.

Word is power comes from a rather large custom built Chevy.

But, the reason she’s here at “EIM” is to have her bottom blueprinted.

So over she goes.

After sounding & visual inspection a large blister was located on the starboard side.

After opening an exploratory hole we found a large void between the core and the exterior layers of glass.

The voids appear to run roughly 18 to 24 inches fore & aft of the blister.

Several large blisters needed to be excavated before being built back up with multiple layers of cloth reinforcement and vinyl ester resin.

Then a vinyl ester filler is applied and cut down with a longboard and 36 grit

Next we applied 3 wet coats of gelcoat then cut that down with a long board and 80 grit.

Now that she’s fair and true we’ll wash, tape and bag her up for the final coat .

Finally we sprayed a gallon of graphite infused gelcoat on and burnished it to 320 grit .

Time to reinstall the cavitation plates, roll her back over and send her on her way!

The End
